PRIMARY CONTEST AHEAD IN TWO MONTHS, EXPLORING A CAMPAIGN FOR GOVERNOR JOYCE CRAIG SAYS SHE HEARD ENOUGH FROM GRANITE STATERS TO PROVIDE AMPLE MOTIVATION TO OFFICIALLY GET INTO THE RACE. PEOPLE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THESE STATEWIDE ISSUES THAT ARE AFFECTING OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND AS MAYOR OF MANCHESTER, I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THAT FIRSTHAND FOR THE LAST SIX YEARS. AND SO WE NEED A GOVERNOR WHO UNDERSTANDS, AGAIN, THE SITUATION THAT IS HAPPENING IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES. ONE OF THOSE ISSUES IS THE ONGOING OPIOID CRISIS WITH FATAL OVERDOSES SURGED YET AGAIN, CRAIG CONTENDS GOVERNOR CHRIS SUNUNU’S DOORWAYS PROGRAM ISN’T ADEQUATELY ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM. WHAT WE DO KNOW RIGHT NOW IS THEIR DOORWAY IN MANCHESTER IS FAILING. FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS, THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN HELPED THROUGH THE DOORWAY HAS BEEN FIVE FIVE PEOPLE PER MONTH. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE NUMBERS IN NASHUA, IT’S 56 PEOPLE PER MONTH. AND SO, YOU KNOW, SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AT THE STATE LEVEL. OTHERS HAVE ARGUED SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. REPUBLICANS ARE EAGER TO HIGHLIGHT MANCHESTER’S STRUGGLES WITH HOMELESSNESS AND CRIME AND POINT THE FINGER AT CRAIG IN CITY HALL. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO IN THIS RACE? WHETHER IT’S THE PRIMARY OR THE GENERAL ELECTION, IF AN OPPONENT GOES AFTER YOUR RECORD IN MANCHESTER, AND WHAT HAPPENS HERE? YEAH, I’M PROUD OF WHAT WE’VE ACCOMPLISHED IN MANCHESTER SINCE I’VE BEEN MAYOR. THE RACE BETWEEN MAYOR CRAIG AND EXECUTIVE COUNCILOR CINDY WARMINGTON COULD BE THE MOST COMPETITIVE DEMOCRATIC GUBERNATORIAL PRIMARY IN DECADES. AND CRAIG SAYS THERE ARE CLEAR DIFFERENCES TO HIGHLIGHT. I HAVE THE EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITH A COMMUNITY, BRINGING PARTNERS TO THE TABLE, ADDRESSING OUR STATEWIDE ISSUES AND PROVIDING SOLUTIONS. I ALSO HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF GOING THROUGH VERY DIFFICULT CAMPAIGN

Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig has officially launched her campaign for governor of New Hampshire.In two months exploring a campaign for governor, Craig said she heard enough from Granite Staters to provide ample motivation to officially get into the race."People are concerned about these statewide issues that are affecting our local communities, and as mayor of Manchester, I've been dealing with that firsthand for the last six years, and so we need a governor who understands the situation that is happening in local communities," she said.One of those issues is the ongoing opioid crisis, with fatal overdoses surging again. Craig contends Gov. Chris Sununu's Doorways program isn't adequately addressing the problem."What we do know right now is the Doorway in Manchester is failing," she said. "For the last six months, the average number of people that have been helped through the Doorway has been five people per month. When you look at the numbers in Nashua, it's 56 people per month. Something needs to be changed at the state level."Others have argued that something needs to change at the local level. Republicans are eager to highlight Manchester's struggles with homelessness and crime and point the finger at Craig in City Hall.Craig said she's not worried about opponents going after her record."I'm proud of what we've accomplished in Manchester since I've been mayor, she said.The race between Craig and Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington could be the Democrats' most competitive gubernatorial primary in decades, and Craig said there are clear differences to highlight."I have the executive experience of working with a community bringing partners to the table, addressing our statewide issues and providing solutions," Craig said. "I also have the experience of going through very difficult campaigns and elections."
