Carillon Historical Park: Printing equipment display (photo diary) [1]

One of the buildings in the Carillon Historical Park in Dayton, Ohio contains a display of printing equipment. While the equipment is displayed in a manner that would be typical of a printing plant, the machinery is not labelled. Two of the important features of a printing plant that cannot be captured in a museum display are the smell of the ink and the distinctive sounds of the different presses (personal note: I grew up in the printing business).

Shown above is a small, hand-fed job press. (Note: I have run similar presses.)

Shown above is a larger job press.

Shown above is a large press used for printing newspapers.

Shown above is a linotype machine for setting type.

Shown above is a paper cutter.
