One thing we overlook - GQP voters won't turn on legislatures for voting for bad laws [1]

There was a story earlier this week — Tots and Pears, These Republican women are livid — that raised an issue with GQP voters I think I had missed.

The Florida legislature passed a bill in 2022, before the election, that would eliminate permanent alimony and other egregious reductions in the rights of women in divorce. DeathSantis vetoed the bill and the GQP women praised him.

Fast forward a year past the election. The Florida legislature, who were reelected by the GQP with massive support from GQP women, pass the bill again. And DeathSantis signs the bill into law. Because, of course, he is sure he won’t have to worry about Florida when he is *resident.

But what is becoming clear to me is that the GQP voter is becoming numb to performative legislation and the MSM doesn’t report on performative legislation that may be vetoes. So the GQP voter doesn’t connect the performative legislation to potential impacts on them.

We keep telling the GQP voter, “don’t listen to what they tell you, look at what they are trying to pass into law”. What if the GQP voter sees the performative legislation not as a threat but a signal? A signal that the legislature is listening to them and they should understand they hear them but don’t worry, we wouldn’t really do that to you.

See how that changes the dialogue? If the GQP voter has been trained to ignore the trial balloons, how do we get them to see they are about to get run over? I think this performative legislation is something that really impacts the ability to get GQP voters to even wake up. How do we get the media to connect the voters to what their legislators want to do to them? To what they say they want the State to do to them?

Thoughts of how we get them to see this before 2024?
