Kitchen Table Kibitzing 7/8/23 [1]

As many here know, remembrance and her family were heading off on a 10-day Alaskan cruise. It wasn’t until after they boarded that I saw on twitter that the ship had crashed into the pier while trying to dock earlier in the day.

It was seemed obvious they would not be heading out into the ocean with a gaping whole in the ship ...and they didn’t. They boarded on Thursday and they should be waking up in Sitka, Alaska tomorrow morning. Instead they will be waking still docked in San Francisco.
Yesterday the cruise line revised the itinerary and is expecting to launch Sunday at 4pm. The cruise will not reach Glacier Bay, the highlight of the trip, instead will only have two stops; Ketchikan, Alaska and Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
The cruise line is offering a full refund for anybody getting off before they leave Sunday. This is the option TLO took. The other option is take the shortened cruise and get a 75% refund as well as a discount on a future cruise. Since they’ve already taken the vacation time, remembrance’s sister and niece both flew out from PA, they decided to just stay on and make the best of it.
To be honest, with the reduced price it is cheaper than staying home and going out to dinner for the week. Meals are include on the cruise.
Today they are off the boat enjoying San Francisco.
Somebody took a time-lapse of the docking gone bad. Reminds me of house boating at Lake Shasta.
