My mother let her cat out last night, it seems. He’s not back yet, but it is being pointed out to her that the family is looking for him, and he’s very likely to come home when he gets really hungry.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Betelgeuse set to blow?
How LiDAR is affecting archaeology.
How do spices get their flavor?
Evidence continues to accumulate that in hunter-gatherer societies, women deliberately hunt, not just opportunistically.
Lightning on Jupiter.
Eight British WW2 Hurricanes have been found in a Ukrainian forest. Stripped and buried, apparently.
Goats are taking on landscaping duties in McKinney, Texas.
New study methods available are yielding new insights into human cultures from ancient rock carvings.
Researchers think they may have figured out how the Antikythera Mechanism worked.

I had to call Alaska Airlines to find out how to deal with the boarding pass issue on the app. It turned out to be quite simple and will be automatically done when I check in from home using my phone the day before my flight.
And I didn’t know before last Sunday that long-term parking is allowed in the short-term lot at PDX. It’s expensive, but it’s also convenient, and if I have to drive myself to the airport, it will make my arrival easy and also my daughter’s return — she’s going to Tampa for some meeting on a timeframe that overlaps mine. Her ex will be dealing with the kids while she’s gone. I have been informed that my daughter’s ex (the grandkids’ father) will be taking me to the airport — I will believe it when it happens, since we have to leave at around 4:30 AM to make allowance for time for all the potential idiocies to happen.

Portland has banned private fireworks this year. I didn’t notice it stopping some of my neighbors.
My daughter is on her way to a work conference in Tampa. One of the few still happening in Florida. Right now, she’s more worried about getting there and back, since her job insisted she use United (they’re paying for the flight). She’s supposed to be back on Friday.
Her ex is staying with the kids while she’s gone. He’s supposed to get me to the airport on Tuesday. She said that if he’s not ready to go when I need to leave, I should drive myself and he can work out how to get to the airport and pick up the car.
I’ll be busy next week, and travelling home on the 16th, so Youffraita said she would sub for me next week. For which, I thank her most sincerely.

Love you guys!
