Street Prophets Friday: My First Week of Summer Vacation [1]

Here I am again, the cat just keeps coming back, week after week. Last week, the last of my English tutoring classes finished. This week, I'm enjoying hot summer days out in the country. I've got a little collection of recent photos to share and start off another adorably fluffy, open thread.

Welcome one and all!

On the drive up to our home away from home, we stopped off in a little burg to deliver a drawing I'd done for a long-time client. My client is a retired dentist and he ordered a caricature of a friend of his who was a dental surgeon and an accomplished violinist. I was told that it was a bit of a toss-up whether he'd have a career in music or dentistry.

Unfortunately, between the commissioning of the drawing and its execution, my client's friend had died. I brought this up in a comment on Aashirs nani's diary last weekend and our friend njm5000 had an insightful thought that I was left with a bit of an incomplete circle. I always enjoy hearing from my clients about how my work is received.

When we did arrive at our chalupa, the garden was looking lush— even if much of the greenery was weeds. A two week absence was plenty of time for the weeds to have gained the upper hand.

Things were pretty dry, but we didn't have to wait long before the clouds rolled in.

I’ve been out there slowly picking away at the weeds. I think I'm winning, but another absence will dash that delusion on the cruel and jagged rocks of reality. At least a bit of rain and regular watering is helping to perk up the cucumbers and tomatoes. I know, you folks are probably up to your un-tufted ears in cucumbers and tomatoes. Mine aren’t even blooming yet. But the pea blossoms of two weeks ago meant there were plenty of pea pods this week.

We even cleaned up nice for a night of open-air opera at the hospital complex of Kuks.

A lovely setting for a bit of culture

It was a bit of an abridged version of Dvořák's Rusalka. It's sort of a fresh water version of The Little Mermaid.

Later in the week we drove through a bit of a storm to visit some old friends. They'd built a house in a spot with a fantastic view, not far from the border with Poland.

That large, darkly silhouetted hill on the left in the background is the hill that our chalupa is next to. The body of water is a reservoir called, Rozkoš. Mrs the Werelynx went wind surfing there once with her father. I've never been there, despite it being a fairly short drive away.

I saw a fox and a roe deer in the yard one evening, but didn't capture them photographically. Also this week marked the return of a squirrel to our yard. This one I caught.

Last night was more socializing at another friend's place.

As we left I caught this late evening sunset picture.

Thanks for stopping by.

This is an open thread.
