Musings for Friday - Why do I struggle to write political stories? [1]

Good morning everyone, I’m filling in for TexDem again as he has several appointments today.

I joined Daily Kos on December 1st, 2004 after several months of lurking. In that time I’ve published over 3100 diaries/stories, almost none of them have been political in nature. I’ve tried a couple of times to write something political, but I’ve always been unsuccessful and ended up deleting them.

On my walk the other day I was thinking about a topic for today and started wondering why I’ve had such a hard time coming up with political topics that would make a good diary. I usually just draw a blank, because the only topics I can think of are ones that others have already covered. What puzzles me about this is that I am a retired teacher, and for a good portion of my 38 years of teaching I taught government! Sheesh, you’d think a guy who led discussions with students on all kinds of political topics could come up with at least one topic to write about here.

I realize that there is a difference between teaching high school students the ins and outs of how our government works and being able to move that kind of discussion to this site. People who frequent DKos already have a pretty strong understanding of how things work. You might not know the exact details of how a bill navigates through Congress, but you have a basic understanding.

I spent a couple of miles pondering this, but I still don't have a good explanation. I guess I'll just stick to photo diaries.

Today’s picture has nothing to do with my musing about my lack of political writing skills, it’s a picture I took at Mount Vernon about 8 or 9 years ago.
