Hello, this is RWPOINTWOMAN and this is Last Week in Japanese News. Here is where I translate Japanese articles about Japan from the Easy section of the Easy Japanese news reader app into English.

On with the show!

June 25, 2023:

Public survey finds that ticket prices are up to ¥2,000, continue to rise. (Livedoor)

Private investigation agency Teikoku Databank reported that there has been one increase in the price of movie tickets after another and that it is becoming commonplace for them to cost ¥2,000. The head of that same company pointed out that, "Loss of interest in movie theaters might speed up," in the context of a combination of factors including increased personnel expenses, a labor shortage, and rising utilities costs. The typical ticket price at large theaters with over 5 screens seating a total of over 500 people managed by 50 companies were investigated. The price increases began in 2022 and 32 companies had decided to implement them. 29 had had them at ¥1,900 in 2021 and 21 had had them at less than that.

That's all for now.
