Red Alert : Deadline July 10th. Democracy in Peril [1]

Special elections in Ohio held in the heat of Summer have an extremely low turnout. That usually means about 8% of registered voters, regardless of when it takes place. Will 8% of voters determine whether your vote, or elected Democracy in the state of Ohio, continues to exist? Yes, they will, if you don’t vote.

Republicans are eager to make sure that the people of Ohio are unable to have their votes and voices count, about abortion or any other issue. They have concocted an expensive exercise - the GOP has stolen at least $25 million from the people of Ohio so far - and have created enormous strain on election workers by holding this assault on Democracy in August.

Ohio has 88 county boards of elections. Until August 8th they wil be working 24/7 to get ready for this forced special election. Selecting voting locations, recruiting poll workers, and printing and mailing ballots takes time and requires energy.

Early voting starts July 11, this Tuesday, but the last day to register to vote or is Monday, July 10. That includes changing any information on your registration, like your address if you have moved.

Should it be harder to amend the state constitution, from the existing simple majority of 50% plus one vote to a supermajority of 60%? Do the people of Ohio know what this means? Will they know where their polling places are? What if their kids go to summer camp where they usually vote?

The GOP is counting on Ohioans to not care about some mid August special election that will rob them of their input into important statewide decisions - like abortion rights or minimum wage.

Vote no to changing the state’s constituion. Register now. Please pass this on.
