As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

Happy Friday! I don’t know what time I’ll get on today, but I will get here. Still unpacking and getting things organized. If anyone wants/needs our new snailmail pop me a message and I’ll give it to you. I am not intentionally missing anyone, but things are a little insane right now.

On the left side of the driveway is where the wet area is. There’s a little pond up between the trees closer to the road, and a small stream runs down near the fence line. Down towards the house, the ground is soggy next to the driveway. We are going to clear the pond out a bit and maybe add a fountain to prevent mosquito growth. We also have a HUGE raccoon. There are paw prints on the porch, and I saw him early this morning right after Bit went to work. So we’ll have to watch that with the dogs at night. We have the trash shut inside the shed at the moment, so he can’t get into that.

We are in the new house! We got the keys on Monday, and started moving that day, but I had to extend the u-haul twice because with Bit working this week, things went a lot slower. It turns out we have a bit of wet lands to the one side of the driveway, and the U-haul got caught in the mud, so that was an adventure. One of Bit’s friend’s dad came over and helped pull it out. Subsequent trips went ok, as our friend who was driving the truck stayed on the driveway. Our driveway is *really* steep, but that does give us a lot of privacy despite being on a pretty well-traveled road. You can see when cars drive by, but we’re well back from the road and down hill quite a bit. We have several fruit trees in the yard, and we don’t know what kinds they all are. Once we get pictures I may ask for help identifying those.

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I can’t get you too many pictures of the inside right now, because it’s mostly boxes boxes everywhere yet. But I can show you a sneak peek anyway. Just don’t mind the mess you do see please. This has been a tough move in.

Yes, that fridge is as big as it looks.

The bed only got here Thursday, the night before that I slept in the wheelchair. I will say this: never again. My neck still hurts from it, and I have some nifty bruises along my ribs from the arm rests. I tried to sleep on the couch, but I couldn’t get into a position where I could breathe. The night before that we had air mattresses, but one of them mysteriously sprung a leak after a kitten interaction. I let Bit have the remaining air mattress because she was working a full shift and then moving the last load here on Wednesday, including the beds.

I mostly have our bedroom set up, though there are still boxes waiting to be shifted into the closet and unloaded into the bookcase which is still out on the porch. Draco dropped his side of the bookcase, and some of the frame came loose. Nothing cracked, so I’m hoping I can nail it back together, otherwise we’ll have to get a new one for in the bedroom. Bit’s desk and Nizz’s desk were other casualties of exhaustion, heat, and the move.

Partially unpacked bedroom. And no, I didn’t make my bed this morning LOL.

I am exhausted, and I ache all over, but I’m doing ok. I’ve made a lot of change of address calls already. I set up transport for my two appointments next week. I need to find the tools and nails so I can hang my calendar up and keep better track of things. I feel like we’ve been in an endless loop and limbo all week. Nothing on this move came easy. Sophie has adjusted well. She has been going in and out of the house with me to bring things inside, as well as going outside to potty and just sit on the porch when the kids were unloading the big things. We’ll enjoy the porch a lot more once we’re not under a heat advisory. Once we’re done bringing things in and it cools off a little I’ll clean up the porch and Bit will sweep off at least part of the driveway.

Exhausted Sophie

Nizz has been in the hospital since Monday. Their legs are really bad, and we had trouble getting them out of the car and into the wheelchair. Turns out they have pneumonia too, but we didn’t know, that, they were asymptomatic. Last time they had pneumonia and they didn’t have any symptoms until it was almost too late, they ended up in the ICU for two weeks. We caught this earlier, so that’s a good thing. But we don’t know yet when they will be coming home.

I will be doing his diary tomorrow, and hopefully will have more pictures for you. the living room is still a mess of boxes and such, so I don’t want to take those pictures. Bit brought one of the kittens from the old house, who was weaned, home and inside, so I should be able to get you some Lancelot pictures (that’s the kitty’s name). She is still trying to catch the outside cats from there to bring here, she’s going to stop off again after work.
