Tots and Pears: These Republican women are livid DeSantis stabbed them in back with alimony law [1]

DeSantis, whose presidential campaign is going great right now, decided to take a break from harming children and marginalized communities to do something nasty to his own base of right-wing Republican white women. He signed a measure that bans permanent alimony and makes it retroactive. This means a flood of cases in Florida are about to be reopened and will overwhelmingly harm Florida women.
'This is a death sentence for me': Florida Republican women say they will switch parties after DeSantis approves alimony law. “He (DeSantis) has just impoverished all the older women of Florida, and I know at least 3,000 women across the state of Florida are switching to Democrat and we will campaign against him, all the way, forever,” Camille Fiveash, a Milton Republican who receives permanent alimony, said in a phone interview Friday. Fiveash, a 63-year-old with serious medical conditions, said she can’t afford another legal fight over alimony.
The law also includes a provision that would make it more difficult for judges to award alimony payments that exceed 25% of the payer’s gross monthly income.
Jan Killilea, founder of the First Wives Advocacy Group, had praise for both DeSantis and Rick Scott, up until DeSantis did this. She pleaded with DeSantis to veto, which he said “naw.”
The new law is expected to re-open tens of thousands of cases. Now, I really do feel for those who knew this was coming and understood what a monster DeSantis is. Yet it’s very hard for me to feel sorry for this large group of white women who supported DeSantis and only now give a damn because he finally decided to screw them over personally. These are the exact same women who repeatedly vote against their own interests in each election and make all of us suffer for it.
Maybe putting a mask on a child during a pandemic shouldn’t have been your primary concern, Karen. Oh, is that cruel? Well, so is bullying children, which you were fine with. You were also fine with the state forcibly taking kids away from their parents because they have gender dysphoria. You were okay with kidnapping migrant families for a political stunt. You are still totally cool with rampant gun violence. In other words, I don’t care that the leopard finally decided to eat your face.
But I’ll be sure to send you plenty of tots and pears.
