Renewable Tuesday: We're Back! [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2023-07-04

I am restarting my Renewable Days Diary series in a new format, with news of the week, not just one specific topic at a time. Today we begin with the best sources of news and analysis that I know of. Feel free to let me know of others.

Renewable Solutions

This is by no means a complete list, even of sources I personally know about. There are thousands, no joke.

School Strike for Climate

@GretaThunberg

No Web site. Supported by Sunrise Movement, 350.org, OneMillionOfUs (@OneMillionOfUs_), Earth Uprising, Future Coalition, Earth Guardians, Zero Hour, and Extinction Rebellion.

Project Drawdown: Table of Solutions

Here, we present the individual solutions reviewed and assessed by Project Drawdown, including their relevant sector(s) and their impact on reducing heat-trapping gases. This list is extensive but not exhaustive, and we continue to add to it as a living project.

The Solutions Project 100% Renewable Energy Vision

Stanford engineers provided appropriate mixes of renewable power sources for all US states, nearly all countries, and many large cities, and then estimated jobs created, lives saved, and more.

Data

Bloomberg Green New Energy

Real MoneyTM speaks!

International Energy Agency (IEA)

We are leading a new era of international energy co-operation

US Energy Information Administration (EIA)

Independent news and analysis, usually lagging somewhat because Wrong-Wingers freak out when the US government tells the truth about anything.

Yale School of the Environment, YaleEnvironment360

Yale Environment 360 is an online magazine offering opinion, analysis, reporting, and debate on global environmental issues. We feature original articles by scientists, journalists, environmentalists, academics, policy makers, and business people, as well as multimedia content and a daily digest of major environmental news.

Renewable Energy World

Recharge

Global news and intelligence for the energy transition.

reNEWS.biz

Renews Ltd was founded by journalists in 2002 to provide unflinching, news-focused coverage of the renewable energy sector. The pages of flagship publication reNEWS Premium Business Intelligence in addition to dedicated market reports, online news and live coverage from events offer an incisive reflection of this exciting and growing industry.

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)

…the first national environmental advocacy group to focus on legal action

Wikipedia has numerous relevant pages. Here is a good place to start. Watch out for the squirrels.

Climate action

My Pinterest Electric Vehicles and Tools board doesn’t have data, but has lots of pretty pictures and links.

Yes, the Yara Birkeland says Zero Emission on the side. It is indeed a short-range electric ship, designed to go among the fjords in Norway. We just need batteries of a certain energy density for ships that can cross the oceans.

Current News

Peak Oil

Are electric buses cheaper than gas? Electric school buses are a cleaner, safer alternative, and they're cheaper to operate — it costs about 14 cents a mile for electricity compared to 49 cents per mile for diesel fuel, according to Blue Bird, a leading school bus manufacturer. They can also act as giant batteries to store surplus energy when not in use.

Not Just Solar Farms—Solar Farming

x There's a lot but here's onehttps://t.co/OrmkMN8KKe — DocValerie (@Doc_Valerie) June 23, 2023

Fox et al. have been claiming that green energy is inherently unreliable, and was the cause of the Texas grid failure in their infamous billion dollar winter storm in 2021.

AP fact-checked them all at the time.

Texas blackouts fuel false claims about renewable energy

ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, said…that of the 45,000 total megawatts of power that were offline statewide, about 30,000 consisted of thermal sources—gas, coal, and nuclear plants.

Renewable Supply Shocks

Bloomberg: Renewable Costs Rise, Just Not as Much as Fossil Fuels

This is due to supply-chain issues. The cost of the technologies is still plummeting.

…new onshore wind and solar projects cost roughly 40% less than coal or gas plants built from scratch—and the gap is widening.

It’s over, but the Fossil Fools still think they can save their Precious that has given them so much power for so long, and provided them with so many equally doomed puppets.

Coal has been in decline worldwide since 2013.

Oil is just peaking worldwide. EVs will drive, haha, oil into a precipitous decline, along with heat pumps and carbon-free ammonia manufacturing.

The writing is on the wall for natural gas plus propane and butane worldwide.

You have been weighed in the balance, and found wanting. Your kingdom will be divided among your enemies.

Belshazzar’s Feast, in the Book of Daniel

Don’t you love living in the future?

Now, as our President Joe the Coolest of His Name always says,

Let’s finish the job.

Coming Soon and Always

Corporate Greenwashing and Gaslighting

Organized hate and denial

Bogus economics and reality

Subsidies

China, the biggest builder of both renewables and coal plants

Lots and lots and lots of EVs of all kinds, from scooters to airplanes

Your house, your school, your office…
