Happy July 4th!
Now, let me make it un-happy.
Joan’s got the day off, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But I wasn’t about to make her call in so early (for her) in the morning on a day off. So I decided I should take the day off, too. And I’m The Decider!
Apparently, I’ve been deciding that for some time now, because last year, I ran the 2019 July 4th show.
Anyway, there’s a silver lining to the cloud, in that it reminds us that last year, we were about to descend beneath the cloud. Of another mass shooting, that is. We just didn’t know it yet.
And honestly, did you remember that today is the anniversary of the Highland Park mass shooting at their July 4th parade?
How in the world have we gotten to a place where we don’t even remember unprompted that seven people were killed and 48 wounded at a July 4th parade, of all places?
The answer is obvious. But for now, we’ll just remind ourselves of it. Maybe we’ll talk about it tomorrow.
It’s not exactly a festive topic. But I think we have a duty to remind ourselves of it.
