Welcome to what is the 1218th original profile here at “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day”, where we’ll be discussing former Mississippi State Senator Terry Burton, who served District 31 of that body from 1992-2020.



And sure, we could delve into his voting record, and talk about how he supported harsh anti-choice legislation while hypocritically wanting to use the death penalty. We could talk about him trying to make gun laws lighter, and how the only hate crime he was focused on putting on the books was to co-sponsor legislation to make it a hate crime to attack law enforcement. Terry Burton supported voter suppression laws, though, throughout his entire tenure, to make sure a state with one of the highest minority populations in the country prevents most of them from voting.



But the problem with Terry Burton was not limited to his extremism. Burton was arrested for suspected DUI in 2014, and then again in 2018. After the second incident, he still refused to resign, but just opted to finish out his term then not run for re-election. He served seven terms in office.
