An Invitation to Further Dismantle a Democratic Republic [1]

Highlighting that for which our conservative justices are most famous—petty and wrong-headed reasoning that undermines the objectives of the Constitution’s Preamble.

Alito’s opinion that massive amounts of corporate cash is the same as “free speech” is probably the most destructive to our system of government. However, it’s Clarence Thomas who seems most steeped in irony: After benefiting directly from affirmative action multiple times, he believed that people at Yale didn’t give him credit for being smart (to paraphrase reporting by Joel Anderson of Slate) and he soured on it (instead of properly blaming bigots at Yale). Maybe the people at Yale actually knew better than we suspected.

Note: Leonard Leo is depicted in the famously weird painting at Harlan Crow’s country retreat.
