Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day: Liz Harris [1]

Welcome to what is the 1217th original profile here at “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day”, where we’ll be discussing Liz Harris, a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives, who after failing to reach office in 2020, was elected to serve District 13 of that body in the 2022 elections, and who served a total of three months and three days before the GOP-controlled state legislature in the Grand Canyon State gave her the boot.

That’s not a typo, and you might wonder what she might have done to get punted out of office by her own party.

Well, even prior to reaching office, Liz Harris was a die-hard supporter of the Qanon conspiracy theory. In fact, she was tied to it to the extent that when Ron Watkins, the man linked to the origins of Qanon was filing to run for office, he listed Liz Harris’ home as his mailing address.

After 2020, Harris began touting the conspiracy theory that the 2020 election was “stolen” from Donald Trump, and began claiming that she was a part of a “good vs. evil” battle that would reveal not just election fraud in Arizona, but uncover it nationwide (it never happened). She was elected in 2022 in spite of having appeared at a conference chock full of nutters led by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell in September of 2022.

After she won her seat in 2022, like many Republicans around the country, she was disappointed to see that her party did not enjoy a “red wave”, so she started claiming election fraud in that race, as well.

n February 2023, Harris invited Jacqueline Breger, an iinsurance agent from Scottsdale to testify before a joint hearing of Republican-controlled House and Senate elections committees. During a 41-minute presentation, Breger claimed that Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs, multiple members of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, a dozen Maricopa County Superior Court judges, and the mayor of Mesa were all bribed by the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel through a housing deed scam as part of a vast money laundering, racketeering, and election fraud scheme. Breger also claimed that the Mormon Church was implicated in the supposed conspiracy but offered no evidence to support her baseless claims. Emails subsequently obtained by the Arizona Republic showed that Harris knew about the details of the fake scandal before inviting Breger to testify, and that Harris did not disclose her knowledge to state Senate staffers who sought details of the presentation. SURPRISE! I brought a lunatic in to disparage half the elected officials in the state!

Five days after the hearing Harris distanced herself from Breger’s claims, conceding that the presentation "was not sufficient to substantiate these extraordinary claims.” Democratic Representative Stephanie Stahl Hamilton filed a complaint against Harris with the House Ethics Committee, saying that Harris had made Arizona a "national joke"; Harris asserted that she was constitutionally obligated to allow the testimony. On April 12, 2023, Harris was expelled from the legislature by a 46–13 vote for damaging "the integrity of the House”, more than enough to pass the threshold for expulsion.

She remains out of office… and we’ll wish her our finest “GOOD RIDDANCE” salutes at this time, and hope she gets the help she needs.
