Is it ever once and done? [1]

I just saw a notice on the Kos that they need money to fight a lawsuit from that bastion of brilliance, Robert F Kennedy Jr. I have not and probably won’t send anything. This is not the only fundraising notice I have seen and not responded to. Not that I’m unwilling to donate a bit now and then, really, but in the past, whenever I have donated money to a cause, I seem to have wound up on some kind of sucker list to be hounded into eternity for more and more. Spouse donates a dribble to Kos on a regular basis, and he’s constantly getting messages asking for just a little more for this or that cause. He’s more patient than I am.

Unless I am sure that one of these really is once-and-done, I will sit on my cash, my name, and my laurels, and look for causes that I am sure will not leave a long tail of begging emails and nagging letters. I’d really like to send a little cash for that lawsuit, but how do I know that it won’t come back to haunt me?
