IAN: July 2, 2023 - We're on the downslope for the year now [1]

In a couple of weeks I will be in Chicago. For a change, it is actually possible my roommate (ramara) will arrive before I do, since she’s taking a redeye and I’m not.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I had no idea sorting earrings could be so tiring. I spent a couple of days with my mother last week, and she had me helping sort her jewelry — the cases she brought out had mostly earrings. She told me stories about how she acquired some of them. I also untangled a couple of necklaces — she gave me one of those.

She told me quite a few family stories, some I’d heard before, some I hadn’t. She also spent quite a bit of time talking with me about my oldest-and-dearest, and apologizing for not having known what I did for him (he did as much for me). How could she have known? — I never told her. I wonder who did. Actually, I think she might have been apologizing for assuming I was utterly selfish for much of my life.

I drove down, and left to come home a few hours earlier than I’d intended. I managed to avoid heavy traffic until half a mile before the exit I wanted to use anyway. My usual route from there gave me light traffic till the first exit to the Ross Island Bridge from Barbur (I never use that one if I can help it). My usual route got me onto the bridge a bit slower than I’m used to, but it was past 5:30 PM by then. I did get all the way across the bridge and made the turn to home before the ambulance got close enough I would have had to stop.

I have been working on those exercises I mentioned last week. I tried one yesterday that I haven’t done before. It hurt a little, but my hip is no longer popping at me. I will persevere.

Love you guys!
