Democratic Fundraising Messages - shame, insults, tricks and threats [1]

Shame, insults, tricks and threats just do not work for me.

“Not mad, just disappointed. I’ll ask again, will you sign our petition to arrest Trump...”

“Will you vote for President Joe Biden in 2024?”

“Did you change your number? You didn’t submit your survey on...”

“I chose you for our survey on...but you haven’t filled it out!”

“GOODBYE! This is a hard text to write, but if good Democrats don’t...”

“Are you voting Republican? We haven’t heard from you...”

“Are you a Republican?”

I will NEVER contribute to an organization which pulls this kind of garbage.

And then there are the misleading texts and emails where they tell you they want you to sign a petition about this or that important subject and when you do, they ask you to take a survey and the last question is how much you’re going to donate. The implication is that if you don’t answer the survey or donate, your signature doesn’t count. First of all, what are they doing with all these supposed petitions? Who are they submitting them to? Stop wasting people’s time. You want money, ask for money. Quit trying to trick people.

What does work for me?

A picture of Jon Tester and he gives an update on his campaign, makes an argument for electing him and asks for a contribution.

A picture of Cecille Richards laying out why the Senate is key to abortion rights and asking for money for Jacky Rosen’s Nevada reelection campaign.

A picture of Representative Maxwell Frost of Florida laying out what’s going on in Florida and why I should contribute to him.

“Tammy Duckworth. We’re so close to hitting our goal...”

“Alert! Republicans are trying to defund NPR!”

“Hey there. It’s Barack Obama (or anyone else). Will you chip in to support my friends Joe and Kamala.”

I’m not saying I give after getting all of these texts and emails, because I certainly don’t. But I don’t end up angry or disgusted as I delete them and block the text. And while I’m on it, stop sending texts every day. And even sometimes MORE than once a day. It’s beyond annoying and ends with me blocking you.

We’ve talked a lot about messaging here. We all know that the administration’s accomplishments are not as well known as they should be. We all know that the Republicans are attacking everything we hold dear and lying through their teeth. Those are the messages we should be sending. The other crap is just lazy. I don’t want to open up a text or email to be shamed, insulted, tricked or threatened. The last thing Democrats need to be doing is aggravating Democratic voters - even pissing some of them (including me) off.

Just saying.
