But a few hadn’t been as careful, and within minutes men were shrieking in pain in the cold morning rain. …

“We’ve got to take the general up, to show him what we are up against.”

Dahlquist seemed unimpressed. Pursall was adamant. Rudy slid behind a tree. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing — two hulking senior haole officers and an aide standing there in full view of the Germans, arguing with each other as bullets whipped by them.
