Thursday GNR: Dig Harder!! [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2023-06-29

Haters love nothing better than a Lost Cause, and boy, howdy, do they have a doozy!! They can’t really pwn the Libs, so they have fallen back on Cognitive Dissonance, denying that prophecy has failed, and going bigger and worse in the media. See the latest iteration of the Blasphemy and Mental Slavery Coalition (officially Faith and Freedom) Road to Majority Conference that just wrapped up. Or don’t, if you value your sanity.

For the past twelve years, the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Policy Conference has empowered conservative activists to fight for their values at the polls and in the public arena. Designed to forge a path toward a pro-family majority, the conference equips attendees with the knowledge and connections they need to drive engagement and voter turnout. This year’s timely gathering will accelerate conservatives further down the road to majority ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

President Biden will be on Deadline White House on MSNBC at 4 PM today for his first live sit-down TV interview, with Nicole Wallace. Joy Reid and Rachel Maddow will join in after the interview for some analysis. We are going to hear a lot about Bidenomics, because

Guess what, folks? It’s working!

My man!

GDP, jobs, unions, renewables up, inflation down. What’s not to like? Unless, of course, you have invested all of your self-worth in denial and rage and hate and being More Equal than others.

You ain’t seen nothin’ yet, Jack

Schadenfreude

More indictments and trials coming. More Trumpists, including Rudy Giuliani and some fake electors, cutting plea deals and testifying in full. More of the I-DJT confessing on tape, before witnesses, in New Jersey! while claiming that whatever it is totally exonerates him, and it was, of course, as you know, mere “bravado”. As if.

Rs doubling down on voter suppression, disinformation, Dog Whistles, abortion, drag queens, trans youth, guns, immigrant stunts, book banning, the climate “hoax”, Putin, censuring Adam Schiff, impeaching Biden, crashing the economy in the next budget fight, Soshulizm, Brandon, and above all Wokeness. More bogus moral panics will emerge from their nightmare fever dreams for us to point and laugh at. Now that they are firmly in the minority, every bit of desperation that they pull out will only dig them in deeper with the electorate, and be used in ads against them. Two-thirds of Gen Z is on our side. Rs are doing everything they can think of to drive more of them and everybody else away, other than the diehard White patriarchal reality-denying Christianist Nationalist Supremacists.

Enough! You can hear about all of their lunatic antics anywhere, 24/7, interspersed with Prigozhin et al. Sufficient unto the day is the meshugas thereof. Let’s give reality a break.

It’s a keeper

Regular Good News

We need more of what Biden and everybody in his administration and DoJ and Ds in Congress and We The People are doing than the MSM will let us have. It is up to us, then, to sharpen our Google-fu, go find it ourselves, and share it as widely as possible.

A few items that I have saved in the last few days.

What Could Go Right? Beating cancer

With new tools and better data, we're slowly sending a global scourge into remission.

Cancer is hundreds of diseases, in every type of cell in the body. We can prevent many; we can cure many; we can manage many; and many remain as dread scourges.

This is our weekly newsletter, What Could Go Right? Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. It is a leading cause of death worldwide; in 2020, says the World Health Organization (WHO), one in every six deaths was from cancer. While the number of cancer deaths is rising—around 10 million in 2020—this is due to the world’s ever-rising population numbers. Absolute numbers aside, we are actually making strides against cancer, particularly in high-income countries. Globally, the age-standardized death rate from cancer has fallen by 15 percent since 1990, according to Our World in Data. (Since many more old people than young people die of cancer, the age-standardized rate gauges progress by accounting for the world’s growing numbers of older people.)

The church is taking measures to help restore its home valley’s beleaguered body of water. The Mormon Church has begun to take a public stand on environmental issues that affect the Salt Lake Valley, where it’s headquartered. The entire observable Universe is humming, and we’re ready to tune in.

A Big Gravitational Wave Announcement Is Coming Thursday. Here's Why We're Excited

The North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) [has] organiz[ed] a coordinated and global announcement on Thursday 29 June 2023. The update will shed light on research conducted by the International Pulsar Timing Array – a global consortium of gravitational wave detectors: North America's NANOGrav; the European Pulsar Timing Array; the Indian Pulsar Timing Array Project; and Australia's Parkes Pulsar Timing Array. "Detecting a stochastic background of gravitational radiation can provide a wealth of information about astrophysical source populations and processes in the very early Universe, which are not accessible by any other means," explains theoretical physicist Susan Scott of the Australian National University and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery.

[See also] the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA), set to be launched in 2037.

It's based on the same technology as LIGO and Virgo, but [in solar orbit] with "arms" that are 2.5 million kilometers long. It will operate in a much lower-frequency regime than LIGO and Virgo and will therefore detect different kinds of gravitational wave events.
