Adding Insult to Injury

Affirmative action may not be the perfect solution to achieving diversity, but what, indeed, is the desired alternative? On that, there seems to be no consensus, or so it seems.

The Biden Administration was not caught off-guard nor totally surprised by it. Regardless of the SCOTUS decision, the President is urging colleges and universities not to abandon their long-term goal: achieving real diversity and providing educational opportunities for historically disadvantaged minorities to better themselves.

Most fair people would agree with this statement: It’s hard to argue that affirmative action hasn’t (largely) been a successful policy. To have the policy reversed is bad enough; this decision coming from a totally corrupt Supreme Court is a travesty!

Get With the Program, Thurston!

Racially Diverse Without Affirmative Action? “The Supreme Court says American colleges can no longer consider race in their admissions decisions. Instead, they can try to build racially diverse campuses through less-direct means. Experience suggests that is going to be a hard slog,” the Wall Street Journal reports. I Deserve to Be Here. As for You… x https://t.co/dVoM9aLh0b pic.twitter.com/fObKP8d6SC — Matt Davies (@MatttDavies) June 29, 2023 White House Had Prepared for Supreme Court Decision “The White House has been preparing for months for a potential Supreme Court ruling gutting affirmative action, even as President Joe Biden expressed optimism late last year that the court would uphold consideration of race in college admissions,” CNN reports. “Biden on Thursday directed the Department of Education to develop a list of best admissions practices to help colleges and universities maintain their commitment to diversity despite the ruling. Biden administration officials are working to finalize additional actions.” How We Got Here x Clarence Thomas cast the deciding vote in the 5-4 Bush v. Gore decision that gave the presidency to the Republican Party in 2000.
