Good Morning! Get your beverage of choice, hot, cold, whatever suits you, and join me for the Good News Round Up.
Today I would like to talk a little bit about optimism. The past couple of weeks as I have been around the comments, I have seen several that have down played optimism and even what we can do to stay that way in general and the positive impact we can make, though they may be small in scale, as we put our optimism to use to solve problems or to just stay healthy amidst all the bad stuff all around us. I will admit it is actually quite easy to read the news each day and get caught up in the massive amount of shenanigans and actions that are just downright terrible. That ultimately can leave us feeling pretty darn down at times. I believe optimism is a much healthier option. I do not think it is a cure for what ails our nation nor do I think it is a cure for what may be bringing you down personally but I do think when you look at life and all that it brings, leaning in to positivity is surely better for our health and our souls.
The following is from an article in The Atlantic and I think it sums it up.
The Benefits of Optimism Are Real
When your mind starts soaring, you notice more and more positive things. This unleashes an upward spiral of positive emotions that opens people up to new ways of thinking and seeing the world—to new ways forward. This is yet another reason positive people are resilient. They see opportunities that negative people don’t. Negativity, for adaptive reasons, puts you in defense mode, narrows your field of vision, and shuts you off to new possibilities, since they’re seen as risks.
Let’s leave the negative thoughts to the RWingers.
All of this also leads me to say my focus on my day of the GNR will mainly be on other unique news if it is out there. Sure, I will post stuff about those we would rather not hear from ever again when it is relevant but if I can avoid it, I will!
On to the news.
I know this has been reported, but it is a big deal.
In 'Very Big Deal for the Survival of Our Democracy,' SCOTUS Rejects Fringe Legal Theory
By ruling against the independent state legislature theory, said one activist, "the U.S. Supreme Court made clear that state courts and state constitutions should serve as a critical check against abuses of power by legislators." Democracy defenders across the United States on Tuesday breathed a collective sigh of relief after half of the U.S. Supreme Court's right-wing supermajority joined with the three liberal justices to reject a " dangerous " legal theory that could dramatically impact federal elections. "The Supreme Court took an important and crucial step today in protecting our system of checks and balances," said Hilary Harris Klein, senior counsel for voting rights at Southern Coalition for Social Justice. "Today's decision will ensure that voters will continue to have the full protection of state constitutions against harmful and anti-democratic voter suppression and election manipulation."
I knew there would be one, the headline got me and I had to include it.
"Cataclysmic evidence against him": Espionage Act expert explains how Trump faces "historic" trouble
The legal noose is tightening around Donald Trump and his crime cabal. Special counsel Jack Smith has formally requested a December trial date for the case involving Trump's alleged violations of the Espionage Act and other related federal crimes. Smith's team has also sent Trump's attorneys a list of witnesses and other information about the evidence that will be presented by the prosecution in that trial. Trump's response has been one of panic and even more paranoia where on his Truth Social disinformation platform and elsewhere the traitor ex-president has been lashing out against "scoundrels" and other "enemies" who are "persecuting" him in some type of "witch hunt." Contrary to what Donald Trump and his defenders in the Republican Party and across the right-wing echo chamber have dishonestly suggested, Trump's violations of the Espionage Act are not mere "bureaucratic" or "technical" disputes about the types of documents a president can take with them once they leave office. ...the types of documents that Donald Trump has admitted to stealing and then concealing from the United States government contain information with literal life and death implications.
Let it be so. I have spoken. 🤣
Moving on.
I am really tired of all the “control” over women’s bodies. Two good news items.
