White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre cancelled her appearance on The View that was scheduled for earlier today out of solidarity with the striking writers of the Writers Guild of America (WGA). The View “employs some writers who are represented by the WGAE East,” according to Ted Johnson for Deadline. Johnson also notes that the show “has continued airing new episodes since the strike began.”
Of course the way Fox “News” tells it, Jean-Pierre didn’t want to answer questions about Hunter Biden, who cooperated with the IRS investigation and thus avoided prison. Classified documents salesman Donald Trump has been very critical of Hunter Biden’s deal. Betsy Woodruff Swan for Politico through MSN:
And while former ... Donald Trump is railing against the deal, experts noted an irony: Trump himself likely could have gotten a similar deal if he had cooperated with federal investigators eyeing his retention of government documents. Instead, Trump is accused of obstructing those investigators and is now under indictment and facing significant prison time.
Even with the seriousness of Trump’s treason, we should not forget that the self-proclaimed billionaire is also a tax cheat. In light of his criticisms of Hunter Biden, maybe Trump will release his tax returns like every other presidential candidate in recent… just kidding, we know he still won’t.
Brian Flood in the Fox News article (which I won't link or even quote) doesn’t mention, like Johnson does for Deadline, that “Dermot Mulroney walked off the set of The View in solidarity with writers” last week. Did Mulroney also worry about being asked about Hunter Biden? I kind of doubt it.
Nor does Flood bother to mention that Jean-Pierre’s latest statements on the matter echo similar statements that President Joe Biden made weeks ago regarding the WGA strike: the president wants the strike resolved with a fair deal for the writers.
But that wouldn’t help Flood’s argument that Jean-Pierre cancelled her TV appearance because she wanted to dodge questions about Hunter Biden.
While there were indications that this strike might last as long as the previous one, I think Jean-Pierre wanted to be optimistic about a resolution prior to her scheduled appearance on The View. Besides, we already know which host on The View would ask about Hunter Biden: whichever one is supposed to be the “conservative” one.
