My Own Emotional Inane Ramblings: How Painful of a Death do we Deserve? [1]

The lack of empathy for those less fortunate, the desire to see human suffering, death, dying itself, being just plain bloodthirsty. It’s a cartoonishly evil picture of someone in my head, and it’s one I apply to basically every Republican politician as well as every single MAGA voter. I thought it was naive, tribalistic to do so for a long while until the pandemic hit and my picture of people in the rightwing changed. Though that last part’s not terribly relevant.
Some of the qualities listed above are ones that also seem to apply to a disappointingly large amount of leftwing voters as well. A hint of suffering is scented in red states and the comments just seem to fly.
”Why don’t they vote out the Republicans?”
”They deserve what they get”
”Maybe the upcoming hurricanes will teach them a thing or two”
Something like that. Yes a comment on this very website prompted this diary but I’ve seen it everywhere on just about every website that has talked about politics. Between Twitter and Reddit, there are those that live in blue states that give examples of such snotty remarks above. Good god, it’s rife on Twitter though. The point is that people living in bright red states, no matter how poor or held down the thumb of oppression they are, have people proudly proclaiming that they deserve what they get, they voted for this. But no. Leftwing voters did NOT vote for it.
Gerrymandering is a massive force keeping a lot of those backwards, MAGA hicks in power. Alongside the difficulty of getting to the polls in states without a proper amount of polling stations or a proper degree of voting rights in general.
The point of this whole perhaps incoherent, messy diary is that it’s so easy to turn your nose up at others. It’s so easy to say that they deserve to die for the systems designed to keep them down because those systems don’t apply to you. You don’t live under those circumstances. Trans sanctuaries??? Good god I didn’t know America had it in it, I’m gonna be honest. But that’s because of proper governing in certain states.
Red states don’t have that because they’re run by backwards pieces of human garbage. And that garbage wants to stay festering for long as possible, no matter what the will of the people think. That’s why the people don’t deserve what they get. Not even the MAGA hicks who actually vote for them who would delete me and people like me in a second for just existing, as tempting as it is to say so.
But godammit I don’t deserve to die an untimely death. I don’t deserve to be rounded up and shot in the head, or hung on national television, or heaven forbid, put into the chambers of a second holocaust. I don’t deserve to die due to a failing in air conditioning or heat stroke or frostbite or whatever the state refuses to help its citizens with.
And the many many people whose opinion it is that I deserve what I get don’t deserve to have that opinion respected. I refuse to respect those opinions. But I can only hope more people who claim to vote Democrat agree with me than those that don’t. I don’t believe my argument is a fallacy or anything like that. At worst I’d say it’s a slippery slope. In fact for my sake and many others, I hope I am making nothing more than a slippery slope. I also hope the rightwing politicians face their comeuppance someday. Those that supported that Insurrectionist Trump are thrown into the slammer forever and those that refused to convict him lose all their political capital for good.
But whatever happens, if you say my argument is a slippery slope, then how much suffering do I deserve for living in a blood red state? Where’s the line? Do I deserve to get sucked into a tornado or a hurricane or have my home pummeled by either? Do I deserve to get cooked in 100+ temperatures with no AC? Do I deserve to become a dead ice cube in the deep Winter? Do I deserve execution for being who I am? You say that people get what they vote for, so how far does that rhetoric stretch towards a Democrat voter in a blood red state? Does it reach its logical extreme? You saying that the author of this diary deserved what they got, no matter what?
