Peanuts and baseball just kind of go together by now. But why? How did the whole thing begin? The National Peanut Board explains.
According to Bennett Jacobstein, author of The Joy of Ballpark Food, a pioneering ballpark concessioner, Harry Stevens, sold advertising space on scorecards to a peanut company in 1895. Instead of financial payment, the company paid him in peanuts, which Stevens then sold at the ballparks.
Why were peanuts such a hit at stadiums? Stevens’ grandson said, “They’ve never been popular at race tracks because people need to keep their hands free for betting. In baseball, the tension builds slowly. Eating peanuts is part of a nervous habit—it gives you something to do with your hands.” www.nationalpeanutboard.org/...

“Peanut Butter,” the olympics, 1960
Peanuts probably originated in Brazil or Peru.
[P]eople in South America made pottery in the shape of peanuts or decorated jars with peanuts as far back as 3,500 years ago. As early as 1500 B.C., the Incans of Peru used peanuts as sacrificial offerings and entombed them with their mummies to aid in the spirit life. Tribes in central Brazil also ground peanuts with maize to make a drink. European explorers [...] took peanuts back to Spain, and from there, traders and explorers spread them to Asia and Africa. Africans were the first people to introduce peanuts to North America beginning in the 1700s. www.nationalpeanutboard.org/...

Max Miller on the history of the Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich [19:46]
It’s easy to make peanut butter at home
You will need a food processor — if there’s a recipe in the book that came with it, go with that. My last Cuisinart could only handle a cup of nuts at a time.
I liked the little red-jacketed cocktail peanuts the best. Buy them raw, then roast them in a single layer in a 350 degree oven, stirring them around every few minutes, until they’re toasty and their natural oils surface — it shouldn’t take long. Let cool.
Once they’re cool, just process them into peanut butter. The skins add depth of flavor too. I always add a little salt to taste.
How long will it last on the counter? I don’t know. It always disappeared too fast.

Peanut Butter Soup from Chef Lola’s Kitchen
In general, the stew [African peanut butter soup] can be thought of as a kind of sauce served over starch and made with groundnuts, tomatoes, a variety of vegetables, and usually chicken or another meat. Additional ingredients vary by region, and can include root vegetables like yams, cooked greens, and various spices. African cooks generally spoon groundnut stew over rice, couscous, millet or sweet potatoes. Like the ingredients of the groundnut stew itself, what starch it is served with, and what condiments accompany it, depends on the region.

Salad Kaeg from Pailin’s Kitchen
These are all classic components of a salad kaeg, but feel free to change things up! My only tip is that because the dressing is rich, make sure you have some sturdy veggies in the mix. hot-thai-kitchen.com/...

Peanut Butter Pie from Preppy Kitchen
My peanut butter pie is criminally delicious, every forkful has the perfect combination of crisp pie crust, silky peanut butter filling, deceptively light whip cream and crunchy roasted peanuts covered in chocolate. preppykitchen.com/...

Peanut Butter Mug Cake from Pop Kitchen
blog.thenibble.com/... The technique uses a mug as the cooking vessel and takes just a few minutes to toss the ingredients into the mug: flour, sugar, baking powder, seasonings and fats (butter, cream, oil). The mug goes into the microwave; as the fat in the mixture heats up, it creates air pockets that cause the cake to quickly rise.
