Photo Diary: Bridal Veil Falls, Provo UT [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

According to local legend, the Falls were formed when a Native American maiden, thinking her lover had been killed, leapt from a high perch. The spirits transformed her hair into the Falls and her tears into mist. When her lover was also about to jump, he was transformed into the mountain.

The rock layers here are Pennsylvanian in age and formed at the bottom of an ancient ocean. The layers consist of sandstone, shale, limestone, dolomite and evaporites.

There was an avalanche at the Falls this past winter, and some of the debris was still there when I visited. So the immediate area at the base of the Falls was off-limits. But the rest of the park was still open.

Some photos from a visit.

For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit.
