x Good heavens!!!!

The Church of England divests from fossil fuels, thanks to endless campaigning from @OperationNoah and many others

I remember the first meeting with the Anglicans about this 11 years ago; it's taken a long long time, and it truly matters!https://t.co/7TetDACgME — Bill McKibben (@billmckibben) June 22, 2023

x New study debunking the drivel pedaled by fossil fuel corporations that getting rid of fossil fuels would make us all poorer.

It won't.https://t.co/v4xGri2WqQ — Bill McGuire (@ProfBillMcGuire) June 22, 2023

x When you hear about climate-related #heatwaves, #floods or #droughts, remember: In 2022 alone, five oil companies — ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, BP, and TotalEnergies — more than doubled their profits to an all-time historic record of $200 billion.https://t.co/DHnW8bU8sg pic.twitter.com/X7sf096C4B — Matthias Schmelzer (@MGSchmelzer) June 21, 2023

I heard from a friend last night that the President recently held a fundraiser in Southern Marin, in a town a stone’s throw away from where I live. According to Reuters, he was here “to raise campaign cash from tech and climate donors as he races to raise over a billion dollars for his re-election fight.”

Just last week at a fundraising dinner Biden received the endorsement of four major environmental groups — the NRDC, the League of Conservation Voters, NextGen Pac, and The Sierra Club — for his reelection campaign, despite his approval of the ConocoPhillips' Willow oil drilling project in Alaska and Joe Manchin’s baby, the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

x This is a bombshell: if completed, the Mountain Valley Pipeline is only expected to run at 35% capacity.

Why? Because it was never necessary! The whole case for it is built on a lie. https://t.co/yQhKNlNTjB — Jamie Henn (@jamieclimate) June 22, 2023

The Sierra Club’s endorsement came with a caveat, however: "[W]e will continue to hold this administration accountable when it falls short," and that "destructive" projects like Willow and Mountain Valley "must not move forward."

White House adviser Podesta says controversial pipeline was ‘inevitable’

White House adviser John Podesta said Tuesday that the approval of the controversial Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) was “inevitable” — defending President Biden’s signing of legislation that advanced the pipeline. “MVP was on its way to being permitted anyway,” Podesta said Tuesday following an event announcing funds for sustainable upgrades to federal buildings. “I think MVP was inevitable.”

x Good climate news: A fourth UK university, @BGULincoln, adopts the demands of @peopleandplanet's 'Fossil Free Careers' campaign, banning fossil fuel firms from attending careers events.

As momentum gathers, this campaign will spread worldwide.https://t.co/nUGV6lfIE0 — Adam McGibbon 🌍 (@AdamMcGibbon) June 21, 2023

Are we in the Anthropocene? Why Canada’s Crawford Lake may hold answers

This summer, researchers will determine whether Crawford Lake should be named the official starting point for this geologic chapter, with pollution-laden sediments from the 1950s marking the transition from the dependable environment of the past to the uncertain new reality humans have created. Never has a single species had the capacity to wreak so much damage — or the chance to prevent so much harm." In just seven decades, the scientists say, humans have brought about greater changes than they did in more than seven millennia. Never in Earth’s history has the world changed this much, this fast. Never has a single species had the capacity to wreak so much damage — or the chance to prevent so much harm.
