BBC EXPOSE: Mass Starvation in North Korea [1]

I was horrified to read this BBC article on recent events smuggled out of North Korea. I thought it important to read what happens under totalitarian regimes as a lesson to what might happen here if the MAGA/Trump Republicans ever get their way.

From the Article: Chan Ho, the construction worker, is also nearing breaking point. This is the hardest period he has ever lived through. The famine was difficult, he says, but there were not these harsh crackdowns and punishments. “If people wanted to escape, the state couldn’t do much,” he says. “Now, one wrong step and you’re facing execution.” His friend’s son recently witnessed several executions carried out by the state. In each instance three to four people were killed. Their crime was trying to escape. “If I live by the rules, I’ll probably starve to death, but just by trying to survive, I fear I could be arrested, branded a traitor, and killed,” Chan Ho tells us. “We are stuck here, waiting to die.”

It’s important for as many Americans as we can reach to understand that when any Nation, whether it claims to be capitalist, communist, or socialist, suffers the destruction or absence of democracy and substitutes for government an authoritarian dictatorship, terrible things can and will happen.

This has happened in places like Germany, Italy and Spain, as well as in Cambodia, Russia and Japan. And others.

The expression, “absolute power corrupts absolutely”, attributed by some to William Pitt, a Prime Minister of old England or Lord Action, among many others, has been confirmed by history time after time.
