I'm sure others have asked similar questions, but recently i asked Chat_GRT the following, and its answers struck me as remarkably liberal compared to the positions held by the hard right in the US today.
My first question was, "What are the greatest dangers faced by humanity today?" Here are its answers:
Climate Change: The global climate crisis poses a severe threat to humanity and the planet. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, sea-level rise, and ecological disruptions could have widespread consequences for ecosystems, agriculture, water resources, and human well-being. Global Pandemics: As we have seen with the COVID-19 pandemic, infectious diseases can spread rapidly across borders and pose a significant threat to public health, causing immense suffering and economic disruption. Preparedness and global cooperation are essential to mitigate the impact of future pandemics. Nuclear Weapons: The existence and proliferation of nuclear weapons present a grave danger to humanity. The potential for accidental or intentional use, nuclear conflicts, or the acquisition of such weapons by non-state actors remains a significant concern. Artificial Intelligence Risks: While artificial intelligence (AI) holds great potential, it also raises concerns. The risks include unintended consequences, such as algorithmic bias and job displacement, as well as more speculative risks related to the development of superintelligent AI or the malicious use of AI systems. Inequality and Social Instability: Widespread inequality, both within and between countries, can lead to social unrest, political instability, and conflicts. Issues related to economic inequality, poverty, access to resources, and social justice are critical concerns for humanity.
Although that all seems to be pretty obvious to most of us, to the American hard right I get the impression that it is not so.
The hard right in the United States today, including the extreme members of the Republican Party in Congress and other elected offices, along with their allies in the media, seem to deny the existence of most of these threats. They generally deny or downplay climate change and dismiss global pandemics unless they occur during Democratic presidential administrations. Reduction initiatives for nuclear weapons are ignored, and artificial intelligence risks are only acknowledged because they fear intelligence in general. Lastly, they tend to deny or ignore issues of inequality and social justice, viewing them as a threat to the status quo.
