Ghana- Abandoned Four year Old Anabel [1]

I intend to cut back sharply on my stories about Ghana but things keep happening and I know there are people here who know and care about Anabel so I thought I should write a quick update.

Anabel is a little girl who was brought to John by homeless street children. She was three years old. She had been found wandering by herself in front of a local hospital. Her mother, who has mental issues, had simply abandoned her.

There is a story there, too, but this is about Anabel.

John managed to get Anabel into a home for the children of parents who cannot care for them. It is not an ideal situation and it does require monthly fees but those we have managed to pay and it has given Anabel safe place to stay.

Last month Anabel came down with the measles. As John said, measles are DANGEROUS. We managed to pay for her treatment and she is much improved, though she still has some issues. Anabel had already been suffering from skin problems. How much of her present condition is from the measles and how much is simply the earlier rashes I don’t know.

All of this month has been absorbed with John’s own health problems and for the most part he has been forced to stay in his own house, so he hasn’t been able to get around to look in on those he has been helping in and around Accra and Buduburam Refugee Camp.

The madam at the home where Anabel is staying has John’s phone number and can contact him when things arise, so it is not as if we have totally forgotten about her.

John had his surgery on Friday and has been at home recovering. He had the surgery on Friday and only today was I able to send the money for his medicines, which is depressing but at least he got them.

On Sunday John received a text from Anabel’s madam. The child needs some medicines and money for food and a few other things, such as a blanket and some clothes, including panties.

This is probably not the best time for the madam to ask for money but oh well.

We will not abandon Anabel.

So this is where things stand this Tuesday.
