Time for a little focus on our gardens.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at, to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off Daily Kos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on Daily Kos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! This is our current schedule of regular IAN diary writers: Monday: Youffraita Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac Wednesday: Pam from Calif Thursday: art ah zen Friday: FloridaSNMOM Saturday: FloridaSNDad Sunday: loggersbrat

I have a nice veggie garden, with my tomato plants and cucumber vines and habanero bushes all going strong.

I found a nice video, about growing and harvesting and tasting habanero peppers:

That was informative.

I do not plan on ever eating my peppers directly. I plan to add one half of one pepper to a pot of veggie soup. A little goes a long way. And, by the way, I recently looked it up, and found that the spicy hotness of spicy hot foods is alkali, not acid. So, to tone down the spiciness of food that is too spicy, I can add vinegar and sugar.

Time for cucumbers:

Lots of nice information.

So far, I have only seen one baby cucumber on my robust vines. But the vines are going strong, so I should end up with plenty. We will see.

Tomatoes:

When choosing a video to post here, I saw several videos that had titles claiming that everyone needs to do certain special things, with their tomato plants. I do not want to do special things with my tomato plants. I just want to water them, and then pick ripe tomatoes, when they get ripe.

Call me lazy, I suppose.

I am already seeing ten or more baby tomatoes, so my harvest should be great.

Hey, I just realized that I have a lot of empty Mason jars, and lots of lids. Maybe I should go ahead and do some pickling and canning, of the tomatoes and cucumbers. The habaneros can all go in a plastic slider bag, and go into my freezer, so that part is easy. But, if I don’t want to just give away tomatoes and cucumbers, maybe I should consider actual canning and pickling. I have never done it, but I have seen it done, in videos. I have read the directions, every time I bought a case of Mason jars. The directions are always printed on the bottom of the box.

Well, take care of yourselves, and all your garden plants.

And eat chocolate muffins.

Hugs!
