In Defense of John in Ghana- Again! [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

I had to do this awhile back and apparently I have to do it again.

For those who believe that John in Ghana is a scam:

I have a copy of John’s national ID card.

I have a copy of John’s passport.

I have spoken with John’s wife.

I have spoken with John’s brother.

I have spoken with John’s sister.

I have spoken with John’s doctor.

I have spoken with a member of the staff in the hospital John goes to.

I have spoken with the father of the little girl who had water on the brain.

John has sent me photographs of himself physically handing money over to the people he is helping.

John has sent me receipts from the hospital, for himself and for others.

John has sent me receipts of the purchase of medicines that have been purchased from pharmacies, for himself and for others.

John has sent me numerous photographs of his bleeding asshole. Want me to post them? Cause I can.

I don’t know how I can be more transparent about what John is doing without exposing his personal details, which I am certainly not going to do simply to appease the skeptics and cynics here.

There are many facets of John’s life that I have not posted here because they are not relevant to his charity work and frankly they are not my business nor the business of anyone here. Some of them I approve of, some of the I don’t but, again, none of my business.

The idea that John ‘must be’ a scammer because there are many scammers in Africa is profoundly, openly racist and elitist.

Racist.

“All poor black men in Africa asking for money to help others must be liars, right?”

If this were an organization of white people based in Omaha there would be no such challenges.

John works for me. I pay him for what he does. Not well, but I do. I am the one in charge.

I have been posting stories about John and Ghana because I thought they were interesting, moving, and informative. I want people to see how so many in the world are suffering from our current obsession with capitalism and ownership of the resources of the world by a handful of incredibly greedy, selfish people.

The idea that some comfortable, well-fed and physically secure person in the US or elsewhere would do a quick google search, read some online crap, and become convinced that they are instantly experts who know more about the poor in Ghana than the poor in Ghana themselves know about their own lives is typical of the internet. But it is pathetic.

“I did my own research.” riiiiight.

Also I thought the people i have been writing about deserve a voice in the world. Someone awhile back said that I should fill my stories with links to articles about Ghana.

No.

There are many articles about many things in the world. Some of them lie. They really do. What I write about is the raw data that the elitists write those foul articles about.

If these stories become an issue of conflict I will simply stop writing them.

I thought better of this site, frankly.

(When I cool down a bit I may delete this diary. Or I may not.)
