Bill Barr slams trump ... again. Are his words helpful to our cause? [1]

Bill Barr had some choice words for trump this morning on Face the Nation. It’s not the first time he has been super critical, one can say in a rather truthful honest way, about trump; he did that last week as well.

We know there is no love lost here for Bill Barr, given his own republican/fascist agenda and his reprehensible record as AG for his former boss.

But he is many steps ahead of other republicans who have tepidly criticized trump but who fear him and his MAGA base and who, as we all know, will fall in line when trump becomes the nominee. For Bill Barr, there is no going back, after the way he has gone to war against trump. Which is a good thing for us Democrats and the fate of this country. Anything and anyone who helps divide the republican electorate is a beneficial development. Should we push this narrative, coming from well-connected republicans, even as we hold our nose? Will more republicans feel less fearful of denouncing trump? Will it sow some doubts in the minds of some republican voters? Will the flood-gates against trump open some day?

x When asked if former President Trump would put the country at risk if he becomes the 2024 GOP nominee, former Attorney General Bill Barr says Trump "will always put his own interests and gratifying his own ego ahead of everything else, including the country's interests." pic.twitter.com/oAFUtTbTyv — Face The Nation (@FaceTheNation) June 18, 2023

Here are some of the exchanges on the show today —

The question is, should we be putting someone like this forward as the leader of the country, leader of the free world who's engaged in this kind of conduct? But the fact of the matter is, he is a consummate narcissist, and he constantly engages in reckless conduct that puts his political followers at risk and the conservative and Republican agenda at risk. He will always put his own interests and gratifying his own ego ahead of everything else, including the country's interests. He's like, you know, he's like a nine-year-old — defiant nine-year-old kid who's always pushing the glass toward the edge of the table, defying his parents to stop him from doing it. It’s a means of self-assertion and exerting his dominance over other people. And he's a very petty individual who will always put his interests ahead of the country's his personal gratification of his, you know, of his ego. But our country, our country can't, you know, can't be a therapy session for, you know, a troubled man like this.

Wait .. there’s more —

x When asked if he believes former President Trump lied to the Justice Department as part of the classified documents case, former Attorney General Bill Barr tells @costareports: "Yes, I do."

On whether Trump has been mischaracterizing the Records Act, Barr says, "Absolutely." pic.twitter.com/PsTRCsG1Tt — Face The Nation (@FaceTheNation) June 18, 2023

The legal theory by which he gets to take back battle plan and sensitive national security documents as his “personal papers” is absurd. Just as wacky is the legal doctrine they came up with having the VP unilaterally determine who won the election.

x Former Attorney General Bill Barr tells @costareports that special counsel Jack Smith's case on obstruction in the Trump classified documents case is “very strong because a lot of the evidence comes from his own lawyers." pic.twitter.com/6zZlkLWhbk — Face The Nation (@FaceTheNation) June 18, 2023

x "Yes," former Attorney General Bill Barr tells @costareports when asked if he believes Trump is potentially a target of the federal January 6 investigation.

"I'm actually starting to think they will pull the trigger on that, and I would expect it to be this summer." pic.twitter.com/ppYxvKuwqg — Face The Nation (@FaceTheNation) June 18, 2023

Pretty devastating and pretty darned accurate. Which is why the right-wing noise machine is in full-gear trashing him left and right.

Bill Barr is not the only one; several other trump’s cabinet members have been openly critical of him. Republican presidential candidates for 2024 like Chris Christie have to put some distance between themselves and trump.

trump’s def sec was also on CNN today speaking up against trump -

x Mark Esper said Trump should not be trusted with the nation’s secrets again should the allegations made in his federal indictment over his handling of classified documents prove true https://t.co/ymFsjWlWtU — CNN (@CNN) June 18, 2023

Based on his actions – again, if proven true – under the indictment by the special counsel, no,” Mark Esper told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.” “It’s just irresponsible action that places our service members at risk, places our nation security risk. You cannot have these documents floating around. They need to be secured,” he said.

What do you think? Can Bill Barr and others be helpful (idiots) for the cause of the free world? Should we find ways to leverage their assessment of and their caustic words for trump? Should we forward these videos and words to our republican friends? Lord knows we have a difficult task ahead and every little bit can help.
