The Ohio History Center in Columbus, Ohio includes a display of rocks—solid materials that occur naturally. Rocks are inorganic and are made of one or more minerals.

There are three kinds of rocks: (1) igneous rocks formed from molten rock; (2) sedimentary rocks; and (3) metamorphic rocks formed when igneous or sedimentary rocks are changed by environmental factors.

Shown above is Berea Sandstone with ripple marks which show that deposition occurred in shallow water.

Shown above is Permian Sandstone.

Shown above is a conglomerate in which pebbles are mixed with the sand.

Shown above is Ordovician Limestone.

Shown above is Silurian Dolomite.

Shown above is Shale.
