Trump is the Smaller Problem [1]

The biggest problem is not Trump, but 100 million morons who believe in Trump and believe his legal problems amount to government persecution. These morons are being suckered by Trump and other cynical (R) politicians who recognize that a large pool of morons can be manipulated for votes and contributions.
Our free press is focused on being "fair and balanced", reporting "both sides", not offending corporate advertisers, and making money from political ads. Also, "horse race" journalism is safer and easier for morons to understand — no need for intelligent analysis or risky opinions that might offend some readers or viewers. Additionally, horse race reporters are likely cheaper.
Fox News remains on top in spite of their obvious lies and Murdoch's admission that money (ratings) is the only consideration. The news media have a general problem in that making money conflicts with quality journalism.
These factors mean that democracy in America is failing.
I live in Germany. We also have our wacko politicians dumbass voters, but nothing like the Trump phenomena. Political journalism also works much better here, for reasons I do not completely understand. There are quality TV news broadcasts from many sources, and talk shows with top politicians debating independent experts and journalists, several times per week. Amazingly, the people are interested and paying attention.
