Apparently, my 2 boys (8 and 11) will be spending every afternoon this week with me. They go to different camps each week in the summer and last winter I asked if I could have them for a week and have camp at my house.

I told their mom we would spend part of the day cooking, these guys love making pizza, calzones, pot pies, you name it, with me. We’d also spend part of the day at the skate park. They have skateboards and all kinds of gear but never go skateboarding. I live right by the main skateboard place in town.

I’m not sure what went wrong with my grand plan, but the first hiccup was when the mom told me she had signed them up for a baking camp and I could pick them up at noon and have them for the afternoon. This baking camp isn’t exactly baking, it’s decorating cakes, pies and cupcakes, but whatever.

Starting in spring, I’ve asked and asked which week was mine and was told the 19th. In fact, last week during dinner when I asked for probably the 4th time, the parents yelled in unison at me, “The 19th!!!”.

Got a text message yesterday with the address of the bakery the kids will be at all week and directions on how to pick them up. I sent a Ha ha! back, but it turns out they were serious and got the dates wrong!!

I had scheduled several things for this week so next week would be clear for the boys. Turns out though, they are going to a doctor's visit one day with me and going with me while I get my hair done! They also have to drive with me while I pick up and drop off a few dogs. I told their dad to have them wear raincoats or hoodies for tomorrow when I have to drive a bloodhound home. Lots of slobber.

I had wanted to have time to plan all kinds of activities for them, but you know, I think they are a bit overscheduled as it is. During the year they go to school every day and then some kind of sport after school every night and weekends. Their parents have the summer planned that way too. Enough is enough.

Maybe we’ll just go day by day with it. They are going to help me with a hedge laying project though. They’ve been wanting to do that forever. I like that another name for hedge laying is “insteading”. Ha!

I’m ok if they want to lay about and watch TV all afternoon. I think all this “do, do, do” is a bit much.
