NYC Mayor Eric Adams called me "the loudest person in the city" [1]

On Thursday morning of last week, I returned to my office – after a meeting with hundreds of fiscal and accounting staff from dozens of agencies to kick off the City’s annual financial audit – to discover that Mayor Eric Adams had just rambled about me for nearly two minutes in front of cameras at a live streamed press conference.
He did a (mildly offensive) impression of me – and he called me “the loudest person in the city” multiple times.
So I just thought I’d be clear:
What I’m loud about is the need for competent government on the issues facing New York City.
I’m loud about the humanitarian crisis at Rikers Island, and the need for federal oversight to address its wretched mismanagement.
I’m loud in demanding cost-saving, long term solutions to help asylum seekers thrive and contribute to New York’s economy.
I’m loud that we need better emergency preparedness for and better leadership during climate disasters, like the toxic smoke clouding our skyline this week.
Yes, as my son Marek said in response to the Mayor, “My pops very well may be the loudest person in the city!”
And I’ll keep being loud, about these issues and more, because competent government is what New York City needs at this moment, to rise to the challenges we face.
I’ll never stop working to improve New York City so that we can deliver effective services, mitigate the risks we face, and invest in the more equitable, resilient, and innovative future that we and future generations deserve.
