In 2016, they went all in, every one of their chips in a huge pile in the middle of the table, even though their hole cards weren’t promising at all, but after the miraculous flop, they felt their gamble might actually pay off, and they’d walk away from the table with their chips and everyone else’s. They couldn’t wait for their vindication and to see the pain on the faces of all the players they wiped out after making their surprising and much ridiculed bet.

In 2020, they anxiously waited for the turn card, but when it was dealt, it was not what they hoped, not even close, and they became increasingly worried that they would lose everything, so they claimed they had been cheated. “The top card was not burned!” they screamed in desperation. “There has to be a new deal!” They were so frightened at the prospect of losing they threatened to overturn the table if the turn card that had been dealt was not discarded and a new one dealt. They pulled their coats aside to show their guns. But the other players were not intimidated and stared them down.

They still have a chance depending on the river card due in 2024, but their odds are not good. If they don’t get what they need to win the pot, they’re ruined. They’ve risked everything, and if they lose, they’ll never be able to play again. No one will stake them anything.

They can’t lose. They will do what they have to do not to lose, no matter what the river card may be. If they have to turn the table over, they will. If they have to keep their guns drawn on the other players while they scoop up all the chips lying on the floor, they will. They have no choice. They are not going to lose everything.
