David Brooks is OK with Ron DeSantis. And that’s the razor in the apple. [1]

David Brooks has a column* in which he very reluctantly says No Labels should not run a third party candidate this year OK so far. But with Brooks there is always, as the great Driftglass says, a razor in the apple.

What’s the razor here?

Brooks’s reason to oppose a No Labels candidate is the threat of a Trump win. But other Republicans, like the FL Governor, whose policies are indistinguishable from Trump’s?

Go for it Harlan Crow-supported No Labels guys!

Even a guy:

So small, pathetic and vicious he uses men, women and children as human pawns?

So racist he proudly says he would change the name of Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg, named after a traitorous slavery defender?

to Fort Bragg, named after a traitorous slavery defender? So homophobic he signs a “Don’t say gay” law?

So misogynist he signs a six-week abortion ban?

Yes! That guy:

if Sanders or DeSantis ended up winning, his agenda might not be my cup of tea, but I could live with him.

This is a double edged razor. Not his “cup o’ tea,” but Brooks:

Is OK with a racist, homophobic, human trafficking misogynist. Thinks a guy who wants Medicare for all and others things taken for granted in European countries is no different from the racist, homophobic, human trafficking misogynist.

Someone like DeSantis, who engages in human traffickng for political purposes and panders to confederates, homophobes and forced birth zealots is unfit to be President.

The willingness of conservatives like Brooks to support him lays bare their own racism, homophobia, sexism and nativism.
