Guns Don’t kill people?

and you take the bait — “Bullshit Guns cause _ number of deaths … etc … etc...”

Try this —

“ You are correct, Guns don’t kill people, bullets do.”

Agree, and then force reality into the conversation.

Now lets talk about bullets — are you gonna deny that a bullet doesn’t kill someone?

What is a bullet? A speeding object that maintains it’s course until stopped or slowed down.

So bullets that don’t hit bad guys can hit good guys? Good mothers, innocent strangers, kids, etc ….

Lets slowly dip our feet into the argument

1. Shooting your gun randomly into the air is a bad idea

https://www.txgunsense.org/articles/stop-celebratory-gunfire

Even in gun lovin Texas folk will admit that this causes unnecessary damages, injuries and possible deaths

The Problem Celebratory gunfire occurs when someone discharges a firearm during a celebration. Although these shots are not intended to harm anyone, a bullet can return to the ground with sufficient force to penetrate the human skull and cause serious injury or death. Texas does not have comprehensive laws around celebratory gunfire or reckless discharge of a firearm. Texas Gun Sense recommends changes to current law to address dangerous celebratory gunfire.

2. Poor Aim is a real thing

this is very old news now but the more guns fired in public areas will only increase the numbers

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22743389/

Results: We reviewed 1,996 non duplicate news reports for 501 shooting events, of which 284 (56.7%) met our case criteria. There were 317 persons injured by stray bullets, of whom 65 (20.5%) died. Most cases (59.2%) involved interpersonal violence. When compared with persons killed or injured in firearm-related assaults or unintentional shootings generally in the United States in 2007, those killed or injured by stray bullets were more likely to be female (44.8% and 10.7%, respectively; odds ratio, 7.4; 95% confidence interval, 5.9-9.3) and outside the age range 15 years to 34 years (55.5% and 27.0%, respectively; odds ratio, 5.6; 95% confidence interval, 4.3-7.3). Most stray bullet victims (81.4%) were apparently unaware of the events leading to the gunfire that caused their injuries. Shooters were predominantly male (95.9%); 62.0% were aged 15 years to 34 years. Eighteen deaths (27.7%) occurred at the scene of the shooting and 55 (84.6%) on the day of the shooting. The case-fatality ratio for stray bullet shootings was somewhat higher than that for firearm-related assaults or unintentional shootings in the United States in 2007.

3. Summary

regardless of the reason for the gun being fired or the intent or the person:

Once a bullet is released from the chamber via a firing pin — it will go until stopped.

If Nikki Haley wants more gun zones — Nikki Haley is just fine with more deaths by bullet.

Good intentioned cops who fire at suspects in crowds — kill innocent bystanders. Good Cops who fire in apartment buildings send bullets through walls, We’ve had babies in cribs killed by bullets, the baby wasn’t in the apartment or even on the same floor as the incident where the bullet left the chamber.

Good people with guns doesn’t mean anything unless we are talking about good shooters with perfect aim and safety training.

Let that asshole open up and spew the bullshit — let them go on and on about good people, their constitutional rights — let that battery drain and the chest puff out, let them wear themselves down.

Then talk about bullets.

If you have the time — it is a game worth playing, because you are in their frame and they must defend something they cannot defend.

Stay out of policy, stay out of gun control, just ask about bullets.

I have had better results using this argument with gun fanatics than anything else. People will change the conversation and talk about how “they” are responsible and it is a shame or they can’t understand other gun owners. I had 3 2nd amendment nuts at the checkout line in the grocery store start saying stuff like “ not everybody should have a gun” “ people don’t understand gun safety anymore” “ I’m against people flashing their guns in public” etc…..

The trick is to not take the other side and just talk bullets
