Dusty smoke from Canada 300 miles south of the border. Great stick to beat GOP candidates in 2024 [1]

There have been immense fires in Portugal and Spain producing widespread disruption. Also in California.

And now the smoke from wild fires in Canada has drifted down to where I live in middle New Jersey.

It’s not just a little hint of smoke. Right now at 1:33pm looking out the window looks as though we are in for the mother of all thunderstorms but the weather channel is predicting zero precip.

There is a very strong pinkish look to the air. And when I step outside I can feel dust going into my lungs -— dust with a taste of smoke -- going into my lungs. Much more scary and uncomfortable than smoke from a nearby fire. This feels like a dust storm. It is indescribably frightening. I have COPD and now I am afraid to go outside, because inside the house has only tinges of dust in the air, while stepping outside it’s much more than a tinge, it’s air that makes me cough and produce phlegm.

When I go outside, I find a uniform distribution of dusty smoke in the air, everywhere I go. It’s not the kind of smoke you sometimes get from a nearby fire. These are dust particles in the air invading my lungs.

So far, the air inside my house is much less dusty, but there are some hints and an unpleasant taste of dust in my mouth .. I am certainly not going to open any windows. I wonder how many asthma sufferers are going to be affected.

Climate change deniers will of course say ho-hum, librul scaremongers, this is just one of those things that happen from time to time.

But with tangible physical evidence like this I think we have a mighty tool to whip up fear of global warming, if we can convince voters that these fires are a consequence of global warming. If voters believe this entirely truthful message, it will provide ample evidence of the gross dereliction and irresponsibility of Republican politicians, it will make it clear they are not fit for public office, because they do not have the interests of the public at heart. It will make it clear they are conscienceless opportunists. They deserve to suffer a tsunami landslide against them in 2024.

I have often heard it said that fear is one of the great motivators for human action. Stoking fear of global warming is not irresponsible scaremongering. It could be an important tool in eliciting funds and legislation to fight global warming, and also important ammunition to help us give the GOP a good thumping in 2024.
