Welcome to the New Day Cafe! This is an open thread.

The NYT recently had a list of “strong New York” movies, which they believe are emblematic of some aspects of the city.

x What makes for a strong New York movie? The standouts are often, like the city itself, unpredictable.

With the Tribeca Festival coming up, here's a look at 10 films that captured New York's essence. https://t.co/gRLAb1IJpJ — The New York Times (@nytimes) June 3, 2023

Of the list, I’ve seen the entirety of five and part of one, so I guess that makes it 5 and a half. My favorite on the list is probably Do the Right Thing. It’s a phenomenal movie that makes a number of different points very well.

After Hours is on a friend’s favorites list. Personally there were a few things that irritated me about the film, but it’s still interesting and fun.

Let us know your favorite New York-based films.
