I thought I should break my silence by signposting this piece of journalism by one of the UK’s top writers.

The piece linked here looks at the success of Russian ‘salami tactics’, one small annexation after another but none too egregious to cause a war or a nuclear response. But when it tried to take the whole salami at once by invading Ukraine, the same process in reverse has been faced by the Russians. Small changes to the weaponry allowed to Ukraine which are each met with threats, but are not in themselves big enough that a nuclear response would be proportionate. And all this points a Russian president who is out of options.
