New Day Café: Sunday In June, Swoon! [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2023-06-04

Good morning, Newdists! Happy First Sunday Of June! You needn’t swoon, unless you haven’t had your first cup of coffee, yet. Get busy with that!!

It’s a little early for the whisky, but the music is nice!

All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation. There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope. We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community. We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.

Celebrating Pride Month…..

I’ve wondered about the proper definition, so:

While the term might seem daunting initially, it’s really easy to understand. Cisgender just refers to someone who identifies as the gender they were assigned at birth, making ‘cisgender’ a label used in regard to someone’s gender identity. Basically, the difference between cisgender and transgender is whether someone identifies as what’s marked on their birth certificate.

Because of the conversation in yesterday’s comments, I came across this . It is NOT the original article I referred to, but clears up a point or two:

Most scholars believe that the Christian Messiah’s name was actually “Yeshua,” a fairly common Jewish name around the time Jesus was alive. Archaeologists have actually found the name carved into 71 burial caves in Israel, dating from the time the historical Jesus would have been alive.

The New Testament was originally written in Greek , which not only uses an entirely different alphabet than Hebrew but also lacks the “sh” sound found in “Yeshua.”

It is as doubtful that his parents would’ve named him “saviour” as it would be for a modern family to name their child “Messiah.” (Although, considering some of the things parents DO name their kids, don’t be too sure!)

One more thing to know:

x The Only African American Ship Captain on the West Coast of the United States in the Late-1880s and 1890s

William T. Shorey (July 13, 1859 – April 15, 1919) was a late 19th-century American whaling ship captain known to his crew as the Black Ahab.

See? We’re smarter already!

NOT a Flaco sighting….

but so very cool...and beautiful! Click to see the whole pic….

x One rewarding aspect of birding is learning what different species like to eat. For example, I had no idea Cedar Waxwings love mulberries! And this year's Central Park mulberry crop looks very good indeed.❤️🫐❤️#birdcpp #cedarwaxwing pic.twitter.com/D5fK3BVn20 — Above_96th (@Above96th) May 31, 2023

A Flaco sighting!

x 🎉🎉🎉In the extraordinary four months since Flaco departed his Central Park Zoo enclosure, he's learned to fly, developed do-or-die hunting skills and found good places to roost. I was happy to see him resting undisturbed early this morning--you deserve it Flaco! #birdcpp #Flaco pic.twitter.com/RdLjcyaPaR — Above_96th (@Above96th) June 4, 2023
