What Daily Kos could be. But isn’t. [1]

I come to this site every single day for its outstanding reporting about the Ukraine invasion. There is no other place where information and opinion are as timely, as accurate and balanced, while never losing sight of the ultimate objective: a clear and decisive win of the Ukraine over the aggressor. This is why I have contributed financially in the past and likely will again.

However, I have never felt the same way about the reporting on this site about domestic issues, and I recently have tried to read more of those articles to form an opinion as to why that might be. To my dismay I have to say that the reporting in that branch lacks all the qualities I value so much in the Ukraine category.

It is not that I disagree with the general message that Trump is evil and has managed to haul almost the entire Republican Party further down than any Koch brother could ever have imagined, and that the way other media outlets cover this dynamic is appalling. I also agree with the objective that 2024 needs to be a clean sweep where as many of those disgusting people need to be tossed out and clear Democrat majorities emerge in the House and the Senate.

Where I struggle when reading most of the articles on domestic policy is the lack of analysis, of context that I so praise on the war reporting. Instead I mostly perceive them to be written in a self-righteous tone Unfortunately, this turns almost every piece into a conversation I could have any day over dinner with my friends, making fun and getting worked up about the shit show we get to see on the right. To me, at times it feels like Fox News for liberals, minus the lies (which are completely unnecessary as the truth about Republicans is appalling enough). There is so very little news and analysis, and hardly anything I “can do something about” other than GOTV.

To make it short: If Daily Kos could accomplish what it has accomplished in its Ukraine reporting when it comes to American politics, I would contribute a lot more. And I know a few other people who would too. Now I am ready to be torn apart...
