Caturday Pootie Diary: Bright lights, big kitty [1]

I opened the box with the new lightbulbs, a little nervous about whether I had bought the right ones. The lamp was a little unusual and I wasn’t sure if they required anything special beyond the shape of the bulb. I carefully screwed it into the socket, relieved when it fit and lit up right away.

“That is bright!” I said, stepping back, blinking. The reverse image of the bulb appeared against my eyelids every time I closed them.

“What is that?” Freddie wondered, looking up at the ceiling. I followed his gaze and saw that the lamp shade was throwing new shadows against the popcorn.

“Huh,” I said, wondering if this was going to be annoying.

“Can I catch that?” Freddie asked, chattering a little.

“No, it’s just a shadow,” I said, moving my hand over the bulb to demonstrate.

“I can catch it,” Freddie said.

A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦 Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.

Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community.

Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people.

Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly. There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw.

A few hours later, I looked up from my phone, wondering where my cat had gotten off to. He normally would be sitting on my lap at that time, and I was all alone.

I found him quickly, sitting on the arm of the couch opposite from me next to the newly shining lamp.

The light and the shadows worked together to make him look like some kind of renaissance painting. The kind full of religious imagery indicating the holiness of the subject.

“Majestic,” I breathed, quickly snapping a photo with my phone.

Only one thing was missing. “Freddie!” I called.

He immediately turned his head and looked at me.

“Ooooh,” I said, snapping more pictures.

”You are so handsome,” I crooned.

”I know,” he said, between licks of one paw.

”Such a good model,” I said.

”I don’t know what that is.”

”Very photogenic.”

He thought about it. “I am pretty hungry,” he said.

I laughed. “That's not what that means!”

Freddie stepped off the couch arm and onto the seat. I patted the spot next to me in invitation. He paused long enough to stretch; sliding his front paws out straight, bowing the top half of his body and lifting the back half into the air. “I bet that feels so good,” I said, a little wistfully.

”Treats would feel even better,” he told me, an open, hopeful look on his face.

”I can’t resist that face,” I said, picking up the bag of treats.

Freddie was curled up next to me and I couldn’t take my eyes off him. He was just so cute.

”Oh my god, Freddie. I can’t stand how cute you are.”

He tucked his paws over his face and gave a small stretch, seeming to hug himself.

I squealed in delight, picking up my phone again to snap another picture.

”What is it you do with that thing you keep pointing at me?” Freddie asked, skeptical.

”Taking your picture,” I said, tilting the phone screen toward him so he could see the picture I had just taken.

”You do that a lot,” he said, eyes narrowing.

”You don’t even see half the pictures I take,” I said. “Sometimes you’re asleep.”

He gasped.

“It’s not creepy!” I said. “You’re a cat and really cute!” I showed him some pictures of him sleeping.

“I really am pretty cute.”

“Do you want to pose for me? We could get some great pictures! For the internet!”

“What’s the internet?” he asked, frowning.

“It’s a place where people share pictures of their kitties,” I explained. “It’s full of cats.”

“I’m on there?”

“Oh, you’re on there.”

He stared at me for a minute. “Shouldn't I get paid?” he asked.

I sighed and grabbed the treat bag.

"I need more than that,” Freddie said, looking at the three treats on my palm.

“Sorry, this is the full salary,” I said.

“I need a raise,” he muttered, but fell on the treats and gobbled them up.

Happy Caturday, Peeps! My camera roll is about 70% Freddie. I’m not sure how he’d feel about that.
