The Republican-led House Rules Committee just approved the debt ceiling deal by a vote of 7-6, sending it to the full House for a planned vote on Wednesday.

Now imagine the republican heads exploding tonight.

x BREAKING NEWS—

The Republican-led House Rules Committee just approved the debt ceiling deal by a vote of 7-6, sending it to the full House for a planned vote on Wednesday.

Following passage in the House, the bill would then head to the Senate before making its way to President… pic.twitter.com/3kjmqlvZ5p — MeidasTouch (@MeidasTouch) May 31, 2023

The committee has 9 Rs and 4 Ds. All 4 Dems voted No. Chip Roy of Texas and Ralph Norman of South Carolina — voted against allowing the bill to move forward. But Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky provided the deciding vote in the 7-6 final tally in advancing the legislation.

Rules Committee Members:

x Republican Ralph Norman is complaining that he can't read the 99 page bill to raise the debt ceiling in 72 hours.

Meanwhile, the Trump tax scam passed by Republicans was a 500-page bill that received a vote within HOURS the same night it was presented to Congress. It was so… pic.twitter.com/AbQkKUC49b — MeidasTouch (@MeidasTouch) May 30, 2023

x Is it too much to ask members of Congress to read 100 pages in 3 days? My 7 year old son has read 100 pages in the last 3 days w/o the consequence of a debt default https://t.co/BIN8SMp32D — andyroddick (@andyroddick) May 30, 2023

When we go high, they go lower. There is no bottom with MAGA republicans.

x Washington is broken.

Republicans got outsmarted by a President who can’t find his pants.

I’m voting NO on the debt ceiling debacle because playing the DC game isn’t worth selling out our kids and grandkids. — Rep. Nancy Mace (@RepNancyMace) May 30, 2023

Do these sensible amendments stand a chance?

x NEW: @AyannaPressley has filed an amendment to preserve the student-loan payment pause in the final debt-ceiling deal. pic.twitter.com/PS4pC68niX — Ayelet Sheffey (@arsheffey) May 30, 2023

FYI —

x The non-partisan CBO has "scored" the debt ceiling deal (ie estimates its likely effects).

The most striking point: The "work requirements" that Republicans insisted on would INCREASE federal spending by billions. pic.twitter.com/VNkXuYaDMT — Justin Wolfers (@JustinWolfers) May 31, 2023

Never underestimate Joe Biden.

x Now we know Biden did everything right in debt ceiling confrontation from start to finish including refusing to negotiate until last minute.

I had plenty of doubts along the way but Biden outsmarted everyone. @TheLastWord 10pm — Lawrence O'Donnell (@Lawrence) May 31, 2023

We now need to spread this message to the electorate — that republicans openly threatened to wreck the global economy so that could take a few billion dollars away from the poorest among us while they gave away trillions to their donor class in tax cuts and who now want to give them even more. Republicans do not work for the American public, not even for their gullible and misguided supporters, who are being bled dry by the grifters at the top echelons of the party. Republican leaders are slave to their billionaire donors working for their benefit; in return they get a few crumbs, the power to divide the country and to inflict cruelty on millions of our most vulnerable.

Let’s redouble our efforts to GOTV!
