Daily Update May 28th
Organizing for DECF
Did:
Found out how we can access van for data collection
Met with DECF RTCW Committee and van expert to learn van.
Got access to VAN. I’ve been practicing making lists.
Made lesson plan for thursday meeting and had thursday meeting. We decided that the canvassing training would be a separate event. It will be for all the canvassers, general how to canvas, and general about each initiative, safety number. My job in that training will be explaining the Cannabis amendment
Met with Judy and tiffany twice since last update
To do:
finish QR Codes for the 12 counties who signed up for the experiment
Familiarize with the Cannabis “Smart and Safe Florida” ballot initiative
Call DECF Presidents who signed up. Get a streets they wanna canvas; this needs to be done tomorrow morning because we meet to cut turfs this week.
Get an address from DECF Presidents to send petitions to
Coucus recruitment: Ask 1-3 friends this week if they will join on June 10th. It will have to be later in the day after Naples Pride.
Organizing progressives
Did:
Had potluck. About 6-8 friends showed up
Met with people individually to hear what they want from the caucus.
Got with former Lee DPCF to get a leed on paperwork. He said he’d hand it all over to me.
Wrote up a manifesto and mission; to be edited by members in our park meeting.
To do:
Have yet to meet with the State DPCF Chair. May not be necessary.
Set date to meet at the park.
Organizing for the Right to Clean Water Ballot Initiative
Did:
I have paused efforts for the college organizing because of my work with the DECF RTCW Committee. Overall that will be the biggest effort I can give to RTCW. If we can get people canvassing door-to-door statewide leading with RTCW that’s a game changer.
I was working but I sent a volunteer to collect signatures downtown with Cindy during the film festival.
I reached out to all of my college volunteers (15) and only one replied. She is not in town.
To do:
Connect Ava with a regional coordinator so she can volunteer over the summer.
Call Coastal Conservation Association (a fishing club who’s banquet I attended) and try to get their support for Right to Clean Water Ballot Initiative: step 1) call my fisherman friend and draft a proposal
Have poster laminated
Get with the petition perfecting team, set a date to join them. Not sure if my time is best spent here. I think I’m best spending my time with the DECF RTCW committee, expanding the canvassing initiative, and communicating with County clubs and caucasus after we launch this.
Organize Community Cleanup
Did:
Wrote an about letter including invite to join, visit website, and donate
Made website
Made gofundme
Made budget plan
Calculated how many cigarettes and buckets of trash we picked up this year
Did a lot of brainstorm on marketing and plans for expansion
Started volunteer recruitment with the letter
To do:
Plan next month and give it to the bar to put on the wall. Make some kind of qr code that puts it in your google calendar.
Design flyers with fun facts about the habitats and wildlife we’re saving ex. Florida fiddler crab.
Weekly Eco-themed Evening
Did:
My plant stand has been good the past couple weeks
To do:
Make a general flier for the event
Post general flier at guitar center and around town
Get us a banner
bag seeds
Get bulletin board for the bar
I need to refocus on outreach
Affordable Housing Project
N/A
Daily Kos Blogs
To do:
I have not been able to keep up with daily updates. I have too many things to do. There will now be weekly updates, and two articles a week.
To write about:
Composting-why every democrat should have one and how I do it.
Radioactive roads- phosphogypsum
County commission meetings and general disengagement
Special event
Daryl's Cancer Benefit
Did:
Made an instagram post
To do:
help by passing out flyers and calling veterans aid locations and cancer aid locations, see if they will attend the event ($10 at the door goes to Daryl)
Daryl does not have a online donation platform. At this rate I don’t think it’s going to happen.
I really need to get on this one. I need to print out mini flyers with my next event payment and pass them out around the Buda bar.
I missed out on collecting petitions this week because I had to work. Wanna help support my activism? click here.
Florida Right to Clean Water has no funds for paid petitioners which is why I am trying to help them through the democratic party and personally. It is my belief that this ballot initiative is the best way a person can help Florida from destroying itself. This initiative will make it so that no matter what administration is in office, they will be legally held responsible for protecting our water and in turn our environment and in turn us.
To donate to Dary’s cancer treatment fund donate to my GoFundMe above and write “For Daryl” in the message line.
