I was just reading this article on TPM by Josh Marshall, and usually I think he’s spot on, but in this instance I think he’s being bit daft, to whit:

That’s why to me this is a very big win both in policy and political terms. In fact, such a big win that I’m still not totally clear how it came about. Once Biden started negotiating and appeared to rule out extraordinary measures, I was sure he was going to get taken to the cleaners. Somehow he didn’t. Score one another for Dark Brandon.
I for one was not surprised, proof:

So, how did I know this, and so many others are still scratching their heads?
I’ll give Josh the benefit of the doubt here, and assume he means in a very real, practical sense HOW did he do this. Specifically, what was offered, what was on the table, what words were said, exactly, HOW?
Well, I can’t say for certain, but I imagine Joe knows quite a few things around Washington, things about McCarthy, who actually can influence McC, perhaps it wasn’t McC’s strings Uncle Joe was pulling, maybe he had other people do it for him. The big money hates volatility, bad for business.
Who knows? But I’ll tell you what, I hope all the assholes keep underestimating Uncle Joe.
